How to Use the Calendar

Navigation

By default, the calendar shows you the events for the current week. By clicking in the bar across the top of the calendar, you can display past or future weeks. By clicking in the navigation bar down the calendar's left side, you can change the display to show events for:

  • today
  • a week (the default view)
  • a two- (three-, four-) week window
  • a month
  • a three month period
  • a full year.

Each calendar can be shown either in a "grid" format or as a list. The default is a grid display of this week's calendar. In the grid view, clicking on any event will open up a more detailed description of the event. Or clicking on the date numeral will open up a list view of all events for that day.

An entire calendar (not just the part displayed on a given screen) can be searched by keyword. Select the "Search" button on the left side of the calendar screen, and fill in the form that appears.

Note: We delete events that ended more earlier than the beginning of the preceding month. This keeps the calendar running efficiently.

How to add an event of your own

All visitors are invited to submit jazz-related events to our Events Calendar. To do so, click on the "Add Event" button on the left side of the calendar screen, and fill in the form that appears. Instructions will appear there. All events submitted in this way will are subject to approval by our webmaster, and will not actually appear on the calendar until they are approved. This safeguard is intended only to prevent abuse of the calendar, not to prevent anyone from posting any legitimate jazz-related event.

Why register, and how to do it

The "Register" and "Login" buttons on the calendar display's left navigation bar will not affect causal visitors. Registering (and logging in) will not automatically permit you to do anything you can't do otherwise. Nevertheless, registering allows our webmaster to assign you special permissions, including the ability to:

  • Edit or delete events.
  • Add events and have them automatically approved.

Registering is easy, and requires only a username and a password. The password is encrypted, so that not even our webmaster can read it. Once you have registered and logged in, the calendar's left navigation bar may show additional options, depending on special permissions assigned to you. Note that special permissions will have to be discussed with the webmaster first.
