The annual "Jazz in July" series of Friday evening concerts will continue this year with:
· July 6: Marty Hodapp's
Swinging Dixie
· July 13: The Monika Herzig
Acoustic Project (A JfB
event!) · July 20: Bill Lancton Coalition
· July 27: The Amy Stephens
Group. Concerts are 6:30-8:00, on the sculpture terrace of the IU Art Museum. All are free and open to the public of all ages. In case of rain, concerts will be moved indoors.

The third annual Indy Jazz Fest will take place this year on July 9-15 in downtown Indianapolis. Evening concerts will be held Monday through Friday in venues such as the Indiana Roof Ballroom, the Madame Walker Theatre Center, and the Pan Am Plaza. Saturday and Sunday feature the all-day Bank One Jazz & Roots Fair at Military Park, Indiana
University/ Purdue University Library Lawn.
Bloomington and area musicians are prominently
represented this year, including two bands of current and
recent Bloomington high school students. (See
story, p. 1.)

(tenor sax), Susan Anderson (violin), Tio Savich (guitar), Nate Brenner (bass), and Nick Werth (drums). Brenner graduated this year from Bloomington South High School; the others will be seniors this coming year at Bloomington North. Anderson recently received a "High School Outstanding Performances" award in the 24th Annual DownBeat Student Music Awards.
Also on Sunday, July 15, from 4:00 to 4:30, the Kirk Hamilton Trio will play, again on the "Emerging Talent Stage." The trio consists of Kirk Hamilton (saxophones), Aaron Mittler (bass), and Andrew Brown (drums/percussion). All three are recent graduates of Bloomington North. Hamilton

and Mittler are now in the "Studio Music and Jazz" program at the University of Miami in Coral Gables. Brown is working on a computer science degree at IU. The trio will play compositions by Bill Evans, Sonny Rollins, Joshua Redman and others, as well as original pieces.

Toward the end of summer, JfB will once again participate in the annual "Fourth Street Arts Fair" over Labor Day weekend (Saturday & Sunday, September 1-2). We will have a booth with informational literature -- including our Fall line-up of concerts -- our new tee-shirts, and
live jazz by local artists.

Bloomington All-Stars in the final concert of the Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department's concert series in Bryan Park. Free and open to the public of all ages. Just bring a blanket or a folding chair and enjoy the music and the evening air. Local artists will play music from across the spectrum of jazz styles.
Later in September, JfB will sponsor Avishai Cohen as part of the 2001 LotusFest. Further information on this event will be available in the next issue of our
