that summer he moved to Brooklyn, where he lived with four other jazz musicians and began to devote himself to his musical talents.
In 1991, Redman entered and won first place in the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz's International Jazz Saxophone Competition. Since that time, he has released eight CDs, including his most recent Warner Brothers album
Passage of Time.

JfB will host its first annual fundraiser banquet and dance this Mother's Day weekend, Friday, May 10th, in the Canterbury Room at Terry's Banquets & Catering (3124 Canterbury Court--SR 46 West, just beyond the 37 bypass). Cocktails start at 6:00. Music will be provided by the Stardusters Big Band, featuring many local jazz artists such as Pat Harbison, Tom Walsh, Janiece Jaffe, Monika Herzig and others. Chris Potter

which won a full five-star rating in Down Beat. In August's 49th Annual Down Beat Critics Poll, Potter won first place in the category "Talent Deserving Wider Recognition" both for tenor saxophone and for jazz artist in general.
For his most recent album,
Gratitude, Potter has moved to the Verve label. The CD is a tribute to several of the greatest saxophonists in jazz for their inspiration and influence, including Michael Brecker, John Coltrane, Coleman Hawkins, Joe Henderson, Joe Lovano, Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins, Wayne Shorter, and Lester Young.
In addition to the concert on April 14th, Potter will conduct a jazz clinic on Monday, April 15th. Details of the concert and the clinic will be available on our website as they become available.

Composer and saxophonist Potter was raised in Columbia, South Carolina. At 18, he began studying at the Manhattan School of Music, where he played with Red Rodney's group. His resumé includes gigs with Jim Hall, Ray Brown, James Moody, Steely Dan, the Mingus Big Band,  Dave Holland, and others.
In 1991, Potter recorded on Marian McPartland's album
In My Life (Con-cord), and began a long-standing rela-tionship with Concord Records. His first CD under his own name, Concentric Circles, was released on Concord in 1994. Several  others followed.
His work in 1999 on Joanne Brackeen's
Pink Elephant Magic (Arkadia Jazz) earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Jazz Instrumental Solo. In 2001, he appeared on Dave Holland's Not for Nothing (ECM),
