In 1997, as a special project of the Bloomington Area Arts Council, a CD was released
entitled "IU Auditorium Presents Jazz from Bloomington." The project
was conceived and produced by Peter Kienle and Monika Herzig, and includes recordings
by several local groups, all of whom generously contributed their efforts. Proceeds
from the CD go to the restoration of the old Indiana Theater on Kirkwood Avenue
in Bloomington, now reopened as the Buskirk-Chumley Theater — although the
old "Indiana" sign still hangs prominently over its facade as a reminder
of the theater's glorious past and a challenge for an equally glorious future.
The disc is available at local CD stores. If you've not yet heard it, get a copy
and hear audible proof of the continued vitality and breadth of jazz in Bloomington.
