Born in Israel in 1971, Cohen began his musical studies on piano.
The family moved to St. Louis for a while during his teen years, where Cohen
picked up his passion for jazz, and switched to bass. After returning to Israel
for a few years, he moved to New York in 1992, where he began making his mark
on the jazz scene. In 1996 he recorded with Danilo
Perez on Panamonk (UNI/Impulse).

Shortly afterwards, Cohen was signed to the Stretch
label (distributed by Concord
),
and in 1997 released his first album Adama
.
In 1998, Chick Corea hired him to play in his newly formed groups Origin and New Trio. Cohen released two more albums on the Stretch label in 1999 and 2000.
His most recent album — released August 14th — is Unity, with his newly formed International Vamp Band (the band that will be playing in Bloomington).
On
this album, Cohen returns to his first instrument, the piano. The
multi-continental band produces a grooving blend of jazz, Latin, and Middle
Eastern sounds. Listen:
